MDAD was originally established in 1892, as the Maryland School for the Deaf Alumni Association, MDAD was reformed in 1956 by a group of concerned citizens who met at the Baltimore Silent Oriole Club. MDAD become incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1967.
