New Maryland Captioning Law
February 14, 2011 Legislature, News Comments OffA new law recently passed in Maryland stating that all televisions must have captioning. Deaf people can ask for captions to be turned on in bars or any other public locations, just like this! Isn’t that fantastic! We can now ask for captions to be turned on all the time in any public location. The law applies anywhere: in a bar, at the gym, in airports, doctors office waiting rooms, etc. The owner of the establishment must comply with the request by law. If he or she refuses to turn on the captions, a complaint can be filed through the Maryland Commission on Human Rights (MCHR).
For more information about your rights related to the provision of captions in public places in the state of Maryland, and about how to file an official complaint with MCHR if your request for captions is denied, visit www.mdad.tv
Thank you so much for all your help in getting this important legislation requiring captions in all public places passed in the state of Maryland!
